Apple stops selling retail MobileMe boxes in Apple Stores

Apple has stopped selling retail packages of MobileMe, and is expected to announce on March 2 – a free version of this online storage service. Besides a free version of MobileMe, Apple will also announce the iPad 2, and maybe show iOS 5 for the first time.

MobileMe is a service which lets users sync calendar items, contacts, email and other things between several devices. This service currently cost $99,- yearly, a new free version will also be able to store photos, music and videos.

Besides the fact Apple has pulled MobileMe from their online store, they also asked retail stores to no longer offer it to their customers. Rumors of a free MobileMe version have been doing the rounds for some time now, and many expect that it will be a announced at the Apple media event on March 2.
